Gulargambone Sportsground Lighting & Change Room Upgrades

Challenge

Gulargambone is a small village in Coonamble Shire, in north-west NSW. Its sportsground is home to the Gulargambone Rugby Union Club, but with no lights for night training, teams had to travel long distances after dark to train elsewhere. The change rooms needed upgrading, and the ground was not equipped to host exhibition games.

The push for an upgrade came from the community, led by the rugby club and a local councillor. To secure funding, Council needed to convert the demand into a clear, investment-ready project that was practical and deliverable.

Approach

We worked across Council’s teams, including infrastructure and planning, to shape a scope that met both the community’s needs and Council’s own requirements. We then prepared Council’s application to the NSW Rugby World Cup Legacy Program, built around what the upgrades would mean for local players and the town.

What we delivered
  • Project scoping
  • Council and community engagement
  • Funding application

Outcomes

Secured $135,200 under the NSW Rugby World Cup Legacy Program for the lighting and change room upgrades, alongside Council’s own contribution.

  • Players will be able to train at home under lights, rather than travelling long distances after dark.
  • The ground will be able to host exhibition games, bringing visitors and spending into Gulargambone.
Up to 150 km saved on every night training session.
